Vinnie
From one of Vinnie’s previous owner:
Vinnie’s birthday is 04/24/2001. His mom (Skip) had fescue toxicity and they had to be separated when he was born. Mr. Owen, a long time Appy breeder in Oklahoma, fed Vinnie his milk and vitamin formula from a bucket until he was old enough to eat hay. Vinnie followed Mr. Owen around the barn every day while he was doing barn chores and feeding. Mr. Owen said he raised Vinnie like a dog. I’m sure it’s why Vinnie is such a people kind of guy and very comfortable and trusting of everyone. The first few times Mr. Owen took Vinnie to the vet he just laid him down on the front seat of his pick up truck! Vinnie’s registered name is Callin’ Wildfire. It was a song Mrs. Owen enjoyed.
Vinnie named himself after his half brother who at the time, was a very successful barrel racer stabled at Mr. Owen’s barn. Vinnie has Prince Plaudit in his pedigree. Prince Plaudit was a very influential Appaloosa in the Appy registry. Mr. Owen sold Vinnie to some gals who trained gaming horses. Vinnie went lame and they put him on stall rest until I bought him as a 3 year old. He had abscesses in one front and one rear foot so that’s probably what caused his lameness. When I got him he was saddle broke but needed work on his cue’s. Having been a singleton colt and then stalled he lacked horsey social skills. We worked more on those than riding. He is such a nice guy that I could get on him and feel pretty safe. I don’t think he’d ever run off with anyone. He’d rather hide behind you when he is scared. He really looks to people for comfort, If you drape your arm over his back and pet him he settles right down. It’s the way he was treated as a baby.
He is also very intelligent and catches on quickly.
